I have always loved the idea of travelling the world. Back in the days of secondary school I used to waste a lot of lesson time planning our 'round the world trip' with one of my best friends, but it always seemed like something far in the future, when we had grown up and left school.
Roll on several years and we have left school. Left university, even. But still that trip has not happened exactly how we had planned. I suppose you could say I have already done some travelling - I spent a year in Utrecht, the Netherlands, during my third year of university and loved it so much I decided to relocate after I graduated.

I have now been living in Amsterdam for nearly a year and although this may be enough travelling for some - not for me. Amsterdam is a real mixed bag of nationalities. I have worked with and met people from all over the world; some passing through, some studying, some working, some settled down with families. Each with their own stories - be it of home or some other interesting place they have been. It makes me feel 'boring'.

One of my best friends here in the Netherlands has not long come back from three months in South America. To be honest; he did not seem the sort of person to just up sticks and go. But he did. On his own.
This makes it easy - if he can do it, why can't I?

Over the last few weeks, ideas have been gathering in my mind: dreaming of where to go, how long to go for and realising that this will require a fair bit of preparation and could cost a lot more than I think. I need a way to organise myself, to be able to see progress in my planning. I think keeping a blog would be a nice way to look back on and appreciate this part of the process, and perhaps to keep others updated when I finally do take the plunge and step foot onto that first plane.
